Steven L. Birch is CEO of William O’Neil + Co., a registered investment advisor serving 400 top-performing institutional portfolio managers worldwide. The firm employs associates in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, and London. Mr. Birch also maintains his role as a Chief Investment Officer and Senior Portfolio Manager for O’Neil Capital Management Inc.

Since taking leadership of William O’Neil + Co. in 2009, Mr. Birch has guided the global expansion of its services and directed rebranding efforts to focus on the firm’s 55-year history of outperforming stock recommendations. He has also personally driven the company’s product development. His innovative vision is intrinsic to the company’s suite of research products, such as the Global Focus Lists, which cover

Over the same period, Mr. Birch also guided the international expansion of MarketSmith, a retail investing affiliate of William O’Neil + Co, which was acquired by News Corp in 2021. The company provides its MarketSmith research platform for U.S. equities to thousands of U.S. investors and has now added a selection of mobile and digital applications, such as Top Stocks, MarketSmith^® India, MarketSmith^® Hong Kong, and MarketSmith^® China.

Mr. Birch joined William O’Neil + Co. in 1995 as a research analyst and was promoted just two years later to an elite group of O’Neil Capital Management Inc. portfolio managers. Later he became a national speaker for the firm, joining William J. O’Neil at speaking engagements across the country. Prior to William O’Neil + Co., he was an analyst at RBC Dominion Securities and Commodities Corp. (now a division of
Goldman Sachs Asset Management).

Mr. Birch is originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina and earned a B.S. in Finance from the University of North Carolina. He is married, with one child, and enjoys spending time with his family, international travel, and photography. He is both an avid reader and squash player.
